Porsche Macan Electric Makes Its Debut in India with a Starting Price of Rs 1.65 Crore

Just days after its global premiere, the brand-new Porsche Macan is now available to Indian buyers. This entry-level luxury performance SUV, now offered in an all-electric variant, marks Porsche’s debut in the electric SUV segment and represents the first Porsche EV derived from an existing model range.

Here are some of the important details of this newly launched EV, for you to get to know it better-

A Fresh Platform

The Porsche Macan EV is based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with an 800V architecture as its foundation. Also, it marks the first time a Porsche SUV has been built on this architecture.

Design Elements

While the Porsche Macan EV retains a familiar silhouette similar to its internal combustion engine counterpart, it also takes inspiration from Porsche’s premier electric vehicle, the Taycan. Features like the four-LED daytime running lights and wraparound LED taillights pay homage to the Taycan’s design language.

The split headlight setup is seamlessly integrated into the bumper, with the main headlights optionally equipped with Matrix functionality. Its athletic demeanor is highlighted by alloy wheels, available in sizes up to 22 inches. Measuring 4784 mm in length, 1938 mm in width, and 1622mm in height, the Macan boasts a longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs compared to its predecessor.

It also offers heightened practicality with a boot capacity of up to 540 litres and an additional 84 litres of storage in the front trunk.

Interior and Features

The Porsche Macan EV’s dashboard design is directly adopted from the updated Cayenne, featuring a dual-tone black and beige color scheme. Porsche states that the driver and front passenger now sit up to 28mm lower than before. Also, the ambient light strip running along the dashboard and door panels also functions as communications lights, using warnings and alerts.

Equipment-wise, the electric Macan showcases a triple-screen arrangement housed in a sleek black panel on the dashboard, comprising a curved 12.6-inch digital driver’s display, a 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 10.9-inch display for the front passenger. The infotainment system operates on an Android Automotive platform, enabling access to various third-party applications and video streaming.

Performance and Range Specifications

The Macan EV features a total battery pack capacity of 100kWh, with 95 kWh being usable. It is powered by dual electric motors positioned on both the front and rear axles. Porsche has introduced two variants, the Macan 4 and the Macan Turbo, the specifications of which are-

Charging Capabilities

The Macan EV offers 270kW DC fast charging, outpacing many luxury electric SUVs. It can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in just 21 minutes. At 400-volt stations, the battery’s high-voltage switch splits it into two 400-volt segments for charging at up to 135kW. It also supports 11 kW AC home charging.

Control and Aerodynamics Specifications

Porsche introduces rear-wheel steering to the Macan lineup for the first time, offering a five-degree angle. This feature not only reduces the turning radius but also enhances stability at higher speeds.

Also, the Macan EV integrates the Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) system, featuring an adaptive rear spoiler and active cooling flaps. Though lacking plastic-covered alloy wheels, the design optimizes airflow. These elements collectively enhance aerodynamic efficiency, reflected in the Macan EV’s impressive drag coefficient of 0.25.

Furthermore, the vehicle possesses two-valve dampers with active suspension management and air suspensions, providing adaptability to various driving modes and road conditions for both comfort and sportiness.

Porsche has initiated bookings for the faster Macan Turbo EV in India, priced from Rs 1.65 crore (ex-showroom). Pricing for the Macan 4 variant is yet to be disclosed and the deliveries are set for the latter half of 2024. In India, Porsche's electric SUV doesn't face direct competitors but serves as a performance option compared to larger luxury electric SUVs like the Audi Q8 e-tron and Mercedes EQE SUV.
