Could the Bharat Mobility Expo, slated for an annual affair, potentially replace the Auto Expo?

Piyush Goyal, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, has confirmed the transformation of the inaugural Bharat Mobility Global Expo into an annual event, signaling its remarkable success. Spanning three days, from February 1 to February 3, the event took place at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

During a press briefing subsequent to the expo, Goyal declared, "Every year now, the Bharat Expo will evolve into a longstanding tradition, with collective efforts aimed at ensuring its annual recurrence. This event will serve as a platform to showcase the narrative of India to its citizens."

The Bharat Expo is set to serve as a platform for both domestic and international companies to showcase their latest products and technologies. Considering that this inaugural event was organized in under three months, there is immense potential for even greater success with more comprehensive planning in the future.

What's the status of the Auto Expo?

So far, India’s leading automotive event has been the biennial Auto Expo. however, it has seen a decline in excitement with fewer carmakers participating in recent editions, aside from Maruti, Hyundai, Tata, and Mahindra. The newly introduced Bharat Mobility Expo aims to stimulate participation across the industry and will be held more frequently.

When questioned about the future of the Auto Expo after the press conference, Goyal hinted at the possibility of merging the two events. However, no conclusive decision has been reached, and it is likely that the matter will be further deliberated by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Could this mark the conclusion of the Auto Expo, a tradition spanning over three decades? The possibility appears large, particularly as standalone car exhibitions have been dwindling globally. Nonetheless, there’s a good chance that we’ll witness the 17th Auto Expo in early 2025 before a good conclusive decision is made about the event’s fate.
