With a launch set for October 16, the Mercedes-Benz G 350dwill join Mercedes-Benz’s – the largest luxury car sellers in India – line-up as the latest entry into the market. With Mercedes-Benz dominating India’s luxury car market for almost half a decade now, this is the first time we get the regular Mercedes-Benz G Wagon diesel instead of the super manic G63 AMG.
The G 350d will also be launched in India. It is powered by a 3.0litre, inline six-cylinder motor, belting 282bhp with a heavy 600Nm of peak torque, mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. While the G63 AMG is performance-oriented with on-road prowess and dynamics, the G 350d is a capable off-roader, with all the kits and off-road equipment necessary for the highest performance. It gets features like:
And many more!
In terms of the overall design, the G 350d is more subtle than the G63 AMG. Although having the same box-like silhouette and a design that seems identical at first glance, the subtleties are in elements such as the grille and bumpers, with their understated designs. Inside it is identical to the G63, save the dual-tone beige and black finish, while giving customers multiple trim options for the inserts.
In terms of equipment, it is pretty well-loaded, with the Mercedes’ latest 12.3-inch touchscreen, which integrates the instrument cluster and infotainment screen together. This is in addition to the latest MBUX system.
The last five years have seen almost the entire range of Mercedes-Benz’s models in India. These include both the regular models as well as the performance-oriented AMG models. There has also been the development of India-specific models such as the E-Class Long Wheel Base (LWB). The brand’s strong product offensive combined with its extensive dealership network allows it to establish itself as a leader in the country’s industry especially through new models like the G 350d. Models like these allow Mercedes-Benz to ensure its dominance.
There is little competition for the G 350d, the only potential contenders being the 2019 Jeep Wrangler and the Toyota Land Cruiser LC, neither of which are as expensive as Mercedes-Benz’s newest addition. However, it should be noted that Land Rover’s new Defender’s launch is set for launch next year, making it a definite competitor against the G 350d.
The Mercedes Benz G 350d is predicted to be priced around ₹1 Crore.
