After much ado, Maruti Suzuki has finally launched its latest in the budget hatchback series – the mega-robust S-Presso. Marketed as a mini-SUV, the automobile features top-notch specifications and an unfailing look at best. It is built on the Maruti Future S concept as showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo and is expected to be a far-fetched stand out compared to the hatchback’s editions available in the same range. The Made-In-India model is available in a total of three variants with four trim levels: Std, LXi, VXi, VXi+.
The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is powered by a BS6-compliant 1.0-litre engine that develops 67 bhp at 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm. Its competent engine is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox along with an AMT option as well. The 998-cc automobile is available in a Petrol Variant and boasts a fuel tank capacity of 27 litres. Its boot space accommodates a capacity of 270 litres and an array of safety features with the usual rear parking assist sensor, dual airbags and a speed alert and front seatbelt reminder as standard. Dimensionally, the new Maruti Suzuki S-Presso measures 3,665 mm in length and 1,520 mm in width and has a 2,380 mm long wheelbase.
For a budget-friendly offering, the S-Presso isn’t heavily equipped but manages to impress with a uniquely positioned instrument cluster and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Smartphone connectivity, both placed in the centre of the dashboard. The round centre console is inspired by the Mini Cooper and additionally features controls for the AC and power windows along with having a USB port and a 12 V socket neatly assembled in one place.
Inside, the Maruti Suzuki S- Presso showcases exclusive all-black interiors with the dashboard featuring body-coloured accents in the top trims. The automobile positions above the Alto K10 and is expected to go against the Renault Kwid and the Datsun Redi-GO. Its price range also brings it in comparison with the Maruti WagonR and Hyundai Santro, although the S-Presso is expected to shine further along than its counterparts by a large margin. Prices for the S-Presso start from Rs 3.69 lakh and go up to Rs 4.91 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and the automobile is also expected to hit other emerging global markets soon.
