As per Industry veterans, the Indian Auto Market is one of the hardest hit this year. However, despite the slowdown, Lamborghini India has recently achieved a new feat by delivering it’s 50th Urus in the country. The marquee has also bagged the record for being the first in line to achieve the fastest 50 deliveries of a super luxury car model (in India) within the first 12 months of its launch. The smashing numbers of the Urus also indicate that those belonging to the creamy layer of the Indian Economy aren’t just as affected by the economic slowdown after all.
As per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers’ (SIAM) August sales figures, the overall sectoral offtake in the domestic market has jumped 23.55% to 1,821,490 units, from 2,382,436 units sold during the same month of the previous year. To top that, chief Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) including passenger, commercial, two- and three-wheeler manufacturers have also reported massive losses this year, with estimates suggesting around 15,000 contractual manufacturing jobs being lost and another million are at risk. Despite the alarming figures though, it is surprising to see the Lamborghini Urus make record-breaking numbers in sales.
As per reports, India was one of the first markets to launch the Urus which comes at a whopping price of Rs 3.1 crore (ex-showroom). The initial unit of the mega luxury car was delivered on September 10, 2018, and clearly, there’s been no stopping for Lamborghini India post that. Commenting on the cracking sales, Sharad Agarwal, Head – Lamborghini India, in a statement said, “India was amongst the first few markets in which we launched the Urus and we anticipated that it would drive our future growth in volumes. The Lamborghini Urus offers the driving dynamics and emotions true to Lamborghini DNA and has the versatility of an SUV that addresses the challenge that we have in India, in terms of infrastructure. Over 70% of the Urus customers are first time buyers of the brand, and with the Urus added to the Lamborghini model range, it continues to expand our reach to new geographies in India.”
Described as a ‘Super SUV’, the Lamborghini Urus boasts a front-mounted 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 650hp and 850Nm of torque. It features an 8-speed automatic gearbox and can accelerate from 0-100 km per hour in 3.6 seconds or 0-200 km per hour in 12.8 seconds, with a top speed of 305 km per hour. The robust SUV can further decelerate from 100 km per hour to 0 in 33.7 m. Lamborghini is also expected to launch another variant of the Urus with an upgraded version of the 4.0-litre V8 engine early next year.
