Launch Date Revealed for Toyota Taisor in India, Stay Tuned for the Unveiling of the Maruti Fronx-based Crossover

The Toyota Taisor is set to make its debut in the Indian market, with confirmation from the Japanese automaker that the crossover SUV, based on the Maruti Fronx, will be unveiled on April 3rd. This rebadged depiction of the Fronx will retain the same engine options and features, however with a distinct design aimed at setting it apart from its counterpart.

Here are the details of what this offering will include -

1. Powertrain Details

Similar to other Maruti-Toyota collaborative ventures, the Taisor will share identical engine and transmission choices with the Fronx. Specifically, it will feature a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine generating 90 PS and 113 Nm of torque, available with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT.

Additionally, the Taisor will be equipped with a 1-liter turbo-petrol engine producing 100 PS and 148 Nm of torque, with options for a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Notably, this could mark Toyota's inaugural venture into offering a mass-market turbo-petrol vehicle in India.

The Fronx also offers a CNG powertrain variant alongside its 1.2-liter petrol engine, a feature expected to be replicated by Toyota. However, it seems doubtful that this CNG option will be available at the initial launch; it's more likely that Toyota will introduce it at a later date.

2. Other Features & Safety

Similarly, the Taisor will inherit all the features available on the Fronx. Its impressive lineup will include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless connectivity for Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, a heads-up display, automatic climate control, and cruise control.

Regarding safety, the vehicle will provide up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, an electronic stability program (ESP), a hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a 360-degree camera. Nevertheless, it's anticipated that the cabin will be distinct not only in terms of branding but also in its color scheme. The Toyota variant is expected to showcase a brighter interior, contrasting with the black and burgundy shades seen in the Maruti model.

3. Price

Considering the pricing of the Maruti Fronx, it is expected that the Toyota Taisior will fall within the range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom).

4. Competitors

Its different models may come with a small additional cost compared to their Maruti-branded equivalents. As Toyota doesn't currently participate in the sub-4m SUV category, this crossover will also compete with the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV300.
